Esther 2:14, Question 2. Why was there a second house of women?

The Ibn Ezra says that there a second house of women because, once a woman was with the king, she was forbidden to be with any other man. This makes more sense once one considers the Divine Right of Kings to which most people held in those times, which states that a ruler is in that position by the design of the Almighty, and therefore had Divine favor and power. Therefore, once a woman was with the king, her later settling for a mere mortal could imply she found something lacking in the king’s power.
